Your Questions, Answered Honestly

"I don't know what era it's from."

That's our job. Our GIA Certified Gemologist identifies era from hallmarks, construction techniques, stone cuts, and design language. Bring the piece β€” we'll tell you exactly what it is and what it's worth.

"Some stones are missing β€” does that ruin its antique value?"

Usually not. Antique character β€” patina, hand engraving, hand-set stones, original construction β€” is what makes a piece valuable. Missing stones can almost always be reset, and the maker, era, and design carry most of the value anyway.

"It's been in my family for generations."

We treat heirlooms with the respect they deserve. Many of our clients sell because the piece no longer fits their life, not because it lacks meaning. We listen first, evaluate honestly, and never push a sale.

Antique Jewelry Buyers β€” Frequently Asked Questions

What antique jewelry do you buy?

Victorian, Edwardian, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, retro, mid-century, and modern estate pieces. Rings, brooches, lockets, lavalieres, cameos, mourning jewelry, signed pieces from Tiffany, Cartier, Van Cleef, David Webb, Buccellati, and unsigned work of equal quality. Any era, any condition.

How do you value antique jewelry vs. modern pieces?

Modern jewelry is priced on melt value plus stone value. Antique pieces get a third layer: collector or design premium for era, maker, hallmark, and rarity. A 14K Art Deco filigree ring worth $200 in melt could carry an antique premium of several hundred dollars more if it's signed or has a rare design. Our GIA Certified Gemologist evaluates all three layers.

Do you pay collector premium for signed antique pieces?

Always, when warranted. Signed pieces from Tiffany, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, David Webb, Buccellati, Schlumberger, JAR, and other historic makers carry significant collector premium beyond the gold and stones. We cross-reference current auction comparables (Christie's, Sotheby's, Bonhams) to set fair market offers.

What if my antique jewelry has missing stones or damage?

Often not a problem. Antique character (patina, hand engraving, hand-set stones) is part of what makes a piece valuable β€” and missing stones can usually be reset. We rarely deduct heavily for missing stones in antique pieces because the maker, era, and design carry most of the value.

Should I get an antique appraised before selling?

Most of our clients don't. Our free in-house appraisal is performed by a GIA Certified Gemologist and reflects current market value (not the inflated insurance values you sometimes see on third-party appraisals). If you already have an appraisal, bring it β€” we'll honor it as a starting point.

Do you buy entire estate jewelry collections?

Yes, regularly. Whole jewelry boxes, safe-deposit-box contents, sorted and unsorted estates. We provide written appraisals for probate, IRS basis documentation, and tax records. For larger estates we can come to you, meet at your bank, or work with your estate attorney.

Twin Cities Antique Jewelry Buyers

Antique Jewelry Buyers β€” Your Complete Guide

Everything to know about getting full value for vintage, signed, and estate antique jewelry

You've found honest, knowledgeable antique jewelry buyers. Most pawn shops and mall kiosks pay melt value on antique pieces β€” ignoring era, maker, and design premium worth hundreds or thousands more. We don't. Our GIA Certified Gemologist evaluates era, hallmark, design, gold content, and stones separately, then pays you for everything of value.

Antique jewelry has three layers of value most buyers ignore. First, the gold and stone melt value β€” what every buyer pays. Second, the maker's premium β€” Tiffany, Cartier, Van Cleef, David Webb, Buccellati, and other historic houses command 2-5x melt for their signed pieces. Third, the era and design premium β€” a hand-engraved Edwardian band, an Art Deco filigree ring with onyx and diamonds, a Victorian mourning brooch with a portrait miniature can each carry significant collector value beyond the metal.

When you sell to a buyer who only pays melt, you're leaving the upper two layers on the table. We routinely identify pieces that pawn shops quoted at $200 in melt and pay $800-2,000+ for the same piece because of era, maker, or rarity. The expertise to recognize these differences is the entire point of choosing us.

How to Get Full Value for Antique Jewelry

Don't Clean or Polish β€” Ever

Patina, hand-engraving wear, and original surface character are part of what makes antique jewelry valuable. Polishing can permanently destroy collector value, especially on Victorian and Edwardian pieces. Bring everything as-is.

Bring Original Boxes, Papers & Hallmarks

Tiffany blue boxes, Cartier red boxes, original receipts, certificates, and provenance documents add real value. Even a partial provenance trail (a great-grandmother's name, a known purchase year) can shift the offer significantly.

Skip the Insurance Appraisal Number

Insurance appraisals are inflated for replacement value, often 2-3x actual market value. Don't anchor on that number. Our offer reflects what the piece actually sells for at auction or to collectors today β€” which is the real cash value.

Watch Every Step of the Evaluation

We identify the era from construction (cut nails, hand-set stones, wire prongs), examine hallmarks under loupe, weigh gold separately, evaluate stones separately, and check auction comparables in front of you. You see exactly how each layer of value is calculated.

Antique Jewelry Eras We Specialize In

Victorian & Edwardian (1837-1910)

Hand-engraved bands, mourning lockets, cameos, garnet and seed pearl pieces, mine-cut diamonds. Often 15K or 18K gold, sometimes silver-topped. Strong collector market.

Art Deco (1920-1935)

Geometric designs, calibrΓ©-cut sapphires, onyx, platinum filigree work, Old European cut diamonds. The strongest collector segment in antique jewelry β€” premiums often 3-5x melt for signed pieces.

Retro & Mid-Century (1935-1960)

Bold yellow and rose gold, large citrines and aquamarines, ribbon and bow motifs, scroll work. Often 14K or 18K gold. Gaining collector momentum.

Signed Designer (Any Era)

Tiffany, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, David Webb, Buccellati, Schlumberger, JAR, Verdura, Bulgari. Any era, any design. Always evaluated against current auction comparables.

Twin Cities collectors and estate sellers searching for trusted antique jewelry buyers near me choose us because we recognize what we're looking at. Hallmarks under loupe, era construction details, maker attribution, period-correct stone cuts β€” all evaluated by a GIA Certified Gemologist with 45+ years of experience.

Antique jewelry buyers in the Twin Cities β€” Victorian, Edwardian, Art Deco, and signed designer pieces

Why Twin Cities Sellers Trust Us as Their Antique Jewelry Buyers

Era and Maker Recognition

We don't just see "old jewelry" β€” we see Edwardian filigree, Art Deco platinum, retro citrine, signed Cartier panthers. Recognizing what's in front of us is the foundation of paying real value.

Auction Comparable Pricing

For higher-value pieces, we cross-reference recent Christie's, Sotheby's, Bonhams, and Heritage auctions to anchor our offer to actual market data β€” not a "best guess." You see the comparables.

Probate & Estate Documentation

Whole estate collections welcome. We provide written appraisals for probate, IRS basis, and tax documentation, and we work cooperatively with estate attorneys when needed.

45+ Years Buying Antique Jewelry

Since 1979 β€” long enough that some of the antique pieces we bought thirty years ago are themselves becoming collector items now. WCCO TV's #1 Appraiser. BBB A+ rating.

When People Sell Antique Jewelry

Inherited Estate Pieces

Grandmother's brooches, great-aunt's rings, family lockets passed down for generations. We handle these with discretion and respect β€” and pay full era + maker premium when warranted.

Estate Liquidation

Settling a parent's or grandparent's estate? Antique jewelry collections are often the highest-value items after real estate. We provide written appraisals for probate and pay fair market value the same day.

Pieces You'll Never Wear

That ornate Victorian brooch in the bottom of the box. The Edwardian lavaliere from a great-aunt. Beautiful, valuable, but not your style. Selling lets the right collector enjoy them while you turn the value into cash.

Designer Estate Discoveries

Sometimes a "plain old ring" turns out to be signed Tiffany or Cartier. We routinely find significant pieces hidden in mixed estate boxes that the family had no idea were valuable. Bring everything.
